Layout Operation

The sequence chosen for demonstration is extracted from the mid week working timetable, which included sixteen passenger arrivals and departures and two freight. Five of the passenger arrivals and departures are worked by Bangor tank locomotives. These work bunker first for part of each trip, involving a reversal at Afon Wen, so they do not run on shed to be turned.

It is a summer evening and several locos are on shed. The loco that brought in the down Cambrian Coast Express is at the coaling stage and the engine which brought in The Welshman through carriages from Afon Wen is on the ash pit. It will run off to operate a Portmadoc departure after the arrival of the loco that had returned with the Western Region land cruise excursion. The final arrival of the day is a Portmadoc arrival.
